Featured Interview|Prof. Hui Su Featured on RTHK
On July 4, 2025, RTHK broadcast an exclusive interview with Professor Hui Su, where she introduced the world's first lightweight, high-resolution, high-precision carbon dioxide (CO₂)and methane (CH₄) synergistic observatory payload, developed by a research team led by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
The instrument is scheduled to be launched aboard Tianzhou-10 cargo spacecraft in April 2026 and will become Hong Kong’s first scientific payload onboard China’s Tiangong Space Station.
Designed to precisely monitor greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations in specific areas, the instrument will provide critical data for formulating and assessing carbon reduction policies. Prof. Su emphasized that the project not only demonstrates Hong Kong’s innovative capabilities, but also marks a significant milestone in mainland china-HongKong collaboration in aerospace technology. More importantly, it offers robust scientific support for China’s strategic goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
During the interview, Prof. Su also discussed the role of the previously launched HKUST-FYBB#1 satellite in disaster assessment and shared her valuable insights and future vision in the field of climate science.
