StellerusTech x Hong Kong International ESG Institute: Launching the ESG Tech Exploration Journey

On July 9, 2025, the "Hong Kong ESG Student Study Tour" was officially launched, co-initiated by the Hong Kong International ESG Institute and supported by StellerusTech. The event brought together outstanding student representatives from Mainland China. With great enthusiasm and curiosity, they visited the Institute of  Space Science and Technology at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in Clear Water Bay, embarking on a cutting-edge journey where advanced technology intersects with sustainable development.

StellerusTech has consistently been dedicated to promoting the practice and education of climate technology and ESG principles. This study tour aims to nurture a new generation of ESG innovators with global vision, technological literacy, and a strong sense of social responsibility, offering students a hands-on experience with cutting-edge space technology and a deeper understanding of critical issues in global sustainable development.

Professor Su delivered the lecture titled "Advancing Carbon Neutrality with Remote Sensing Satellites."

Flagship Lecture:Advancing Carbon Neutrality with Remote Sensing Satellites

A highlight of the event was a keynote lecture delivered by Professor Hui Su, Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST, Global STEM Professor , and Co-founder and Chairwoman of StellerusTech. Her talk, titled" Advancing Carbon Neutrality with Remote Sensing Satellites," provided an in-depth look at how remote sensing technologies are essential to global carbon emission monitoring and climate change response.

She introduced the world's first lightweight, high-resolution, high-precision carbon dioxide (CO₂)and methane (CH) synergistic observatory payload, developed by a research team led by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).This instrument is scheduled to be launched aboard China’s " Tiangong" space station — Hong Kongs first scientific payload onboard Chinas Tiangong Space Station.

Nicknamed the “chemical analyzer in space,” the instrument can precisely identify carbon emission sources, transforming previously hard-to-measure carbon footprints into visual and scientifically grounded data. This innovation offers robust technical support for global carbon market regulation, carbon finance evaluation, and corporate ESG performance assessment. Students eagerly engaged with questions about how carbon monitoring and space technologies can support ESG practices.

From Satellite Theory to Hands-on Practice: Immersive Tech Experience

Following the keynote, Dr. Mingyuan Hu, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of StellerusTech, delivered a lecture on"Satellite Knowledge and Applications." With an engaging and accessible approach, he explained satellite operating principles, orbital classifications, sensing technologies, and their real-world applications in climate technology, agricultural monitoring, and infrastructure risk management.

Under Dr. Hu’s guidance, students built their own solar-powered satellite models. This hands-on workshop introduced them to the fundamentals of satellite power systems and structural design, offering a tangible and impactful understanding of how clean energy integrates with space technology. The interactive format — combining hands-on building with critical thinking — deepened students' awareness of the close connection between ESG and innovative technologies, sparking strong enthusiasm for further exploration.

Planting Seeds for the Future: Bridging Youth with ESG Technology

This meaningful study tour was not only a journey into science but also a forward-looking experiential lesson. Through on-site learning and expert interaction, students broadened their understanding of ESG and gained deeper insights into how technology can empower environmental and social governance. Many also began rethinking their academic and career pathways in the sustainable development field.

StellerusTech will continue to advance ESG education and practical science initiatives, nurturing more locally rooted yet globally minded ESG talents and jointly shaping a resilient, green, and sustainable future.
